Fair Use Policy
Last updated at: February 26, 2026This Fair Use Policy ("Policy") supplements our Terms of Service and applies to all SimpleLocalize plans, including the free Community plan. It is designed to ensure that all users can enjoy a reliable, fast, and high-quality service.
Purpose
SimpleLocalize plans are designed to serve teams and projects of all sizes. We set generous limits for each plan level so that the vast majority of users never have to think about them. This Policy exists to prevent extreme or abusive usage patterns that could degrade the experience for other customers.
What we consider fair use
We expect that your usage of SimpleLocalize falls within the reasonable boundaries of your plan. Below are the guidelines for the main resource areas.
Translation keys
Each plan includes a defined number of translation keys. You may use up to the limit specified in your plan. If you need more keys, you can upgrade your plan or adjust your plan limits at any time.
API requests
All plans include access to the SimpleLocalize API. We expect API usage to be reasonable and consistent with normal application behavior:
- Polling frequency - Do not poll the API more often than once per minute for the same resource. Use webhooks or the CDN for real-time delivery instead.
- Bulk operations - Use batch endpoints where available instead of making individual requests in rapid succession.
- Rate limits - We may enforce rate limits to protect the service. Current rate limits are documented in the API documentation. If you are rate-limited, back off and retry with exponential delay.
- End-user access - Do not use the API to serve translations directly to end-users in a way that generates excessive requests. Use our Translation Hosting and CDN for scalable delivery.
Auto-translation characters
Each paid plan comes with a monthly auto-translation character allowance. Unused characters roll over to the following months. Characters are consumed when translations are sent to external services such as DeepL, Google Translate, or OpenAI.
- Characters are counted based on the source text length multiplied by the number of target languages.
- Using your own API keys for auto-translation does not consume characters from your SimpleLocalize plan.
Translation Hosting and CDN
Translation Hosting delivers your translations via a global CDN. Fair use of Translation Hosting includes:
- Reasonable publications - Do not publish an excessive number of translation versions or create an extremely high number of translation keys that are never used in your application.
Projects and team members
Each plan defines the number of projects and team members you can have. All team members included in your plan can be used without additional cost. You may not create multiple free accounts to circumvent plan limits.
Webhooks and automations
Automations and webhooks should be configured to avoid unnecessary loops or excessive triggers. Do not configure automations that trigger other automations in a way that creates infinite loops or generates excessive API calls.
What is not allowed
The following activities are considered a violation of this Fair Use Policy:
- Circumventing plan limits - Creating multiple accounts, projects, or organizations to bypass the limits of your current plan.
- Reselling or sublicensing - Offering SimpleLocalize as your own service or reselling access to third parties without a formal agreement.
- Automated abuse - Using scripts, bots, or other automated tools to generate artificial load, scrape data, or exploit the service in unintended ways.
- Excessive resource consumption - Using the service in a way that places an unreasonable burden on our infrastructure, such as uploading millions of empty translation keys, sending excessive API requests, or generating extreme amounts of auto-translation characters through automation loops.
- Content violations - Storing or translating content that violates our Terms of Service, including illegal, harmful, infringing content or personal data.
How we handle violations
We believe in transparency and fairness. If we detect usage that appears to violate this Policy:
- We will notify you first - We will contact you via email to explain the issue and give you an opportunity to adjust your usage.
- We may request a plan upgrade - If your usage consistently exceeds your plan level, we may ask you to upgrade to a more appropriate plan.
- We may throttle or limit access - In cases of severe or ongoing abuse, we may temporarily throttle API access or limit certain features to protect the service for other users.
- We may suspend or terminate access - As a last resort, and in accordance with our Terms of Service, we may suspend or terminate your account.
We will always try to resolve issues collaboratively before taking restrictive action.
